Farewell, Mon Ami (For Now)

When we met a few winters ago,

I was confused, tired and discouraged;

Confused what I was supposed to do,

Tired of doing the same thing again and again,

Discouraged by people’s poisonous words at each moment of my success.

You were such a breath of fresh air,

At a time I did not want to breathe;

Laughter when I had forgotten to laugh;

A ray of light to a heart that had lost hope.

You told me it was okay to dream, but it was also okay not to have a dream,

You told me it is okay to be imperfect.

You reminded me to cherish the small things in life,

You reminded me life was worth living, it did not have to be a struggle.

I started to be less confused about what I wanted,

Less tired about what I was doing,

Found courage to take a break,

To be not burdened about a lack of a dream,

And eventually even found a dream to focus on.

Now that time has come,

For you to go on and face a challenge of your own,

Where I cannot come with you,

We have to say goodbyes for a while.

Never fear I will be gone when you come back,

I will always be here,

With open arms and a happy smile,

I will be cheering you on from the distance.

So, go on now, mon ami,

Face those demons you have to face.

Then, once the time is right and your quest is complete,

Let us meet again under the purple sky,

And sing to the tune of friendship and life,

About shining, dreaming and smiling,

About trust and about love,

About you, about me and about us.

Our spring will come again,

Our spring will come again.
