Les connoisseurs, c’est à vous ! Exploring the second day of Ceylon Literary Festival

The second day of the Ceylon Literary and Arts Festival (CLF) will unfold tomorrow (09th Feb 2024) at Suisse Hotel Kandy with more engaging panel discussions and a captivating exploration of Helga’s Folly, a fan favourite unique venue with art and rich history.

The panel discussion titled “But Where Exactly is Home?” will delve into the personal and literary aspects of leaving one’s home. Authors Ronya Othman, Amanthi Harris, and VV Ganeshananthan will engage in an insightful conversation moderated by the author-in-exile, Marguerite Richards. Exploring the theme will provide attendees with a profound understanding of the impact of displacement on literature.

“Help! AI chewed up my manuscript!” the following discussion will tackle the influence of artificial intelligence on the craft of writing. Louis de Bernieres, Lal Medawattegedar, Preeti Shenoy, and Yudhanjaya Wijeratne, the current Gratiaen co-winner, will engage in a thought-provoking conversation about the challenges authors face in an increasingly AI-dominated world.

The day will conclude with a special session, “Louis de Bernieres in Conversation,” where the bestselling author shares insights into his career, connections to Sri Lanka, and his latest book, “Light Over Liskeard.” In dialogue with Shevanthie Goonesekera, de Bernieres will provide the audience with a glimpse into the inspiration behind his literary journey.

Amidst the literary discussions, the CLF also offer an enchanting tour through Helga’s Folly as part of the CLF’s art festival. Owned by Helga De Silva Blow Perera, this hotel is a testament to art, mystery, and time. With murals covering every inch of wall space, initiated by Helga in 1988, the hotel has hosted illustrious guests such as Vivian Leigh, Peter Finch, Sir Laurence Olivier, and Mahatma Gandhi.

The Ceylon Literary and Arts Festival will continue to serve as a just-kindled beacon for cultural exchange and intellectual exploration, bringing together literary enthusiasts and acclaimed authors in a celebration of art and literature. See you all at Suisse Hotel Kandy tomorrow.
