Beyond the Father by Opëshum Patroz – Engaging Fusion of Sci-Fi and Fantasy

A brilliant sci-fi that plays with hypothetical ideas and concepts of together living in some other remote part of the universe is unavoidably embedded with the plot of “Beyond the Father,” the novel has a new world for readers –Xżyber. It recounts the consequences upon the planet’s civilization due to storms, war, uprisings, scarce teal oil, disparity among Mollards and Non-Mollards, perversion of faith and much more. Surely, the planet is different, however, its denizens are not living a life of spirituality; they are there to fight for everything that they could for a better secure future.

Of course, being a reader of current era, you might get this feel that this novel is brimming with possibilities regarding the future advancement of science & technology, and humanity’s attempt to discover a civilization other than its own.

Opëshum Patroz tells a story about survival, existence, and a species’ endeavors to live again in a different avatar after death. This is the first book in the series. May be in next books they may reach beyond the stars and galaxy, and resolve the curiosity of the mind, and the ever pondered question: Are we truly alone in this cosmos?

Patroz, through the novel, takes us on a political and cultural detour through various characters. The story offers a subtle socio-political critique on socialism, nepotism, and capitalism, and the rift between ideology and science. From VR to Flexis’ theory of god and worship to military generals war speculation and the ground for looming wars, Patroz weaves a multilayered narrative that looks toward unsettling history, ideology, politics, science technology and the environment through an objective lens.

You might love the somewhat uneven narrative that has the taste of a mystery novel, blended with raptures and afterlife Litprg elements. The part where you can be baffled and also intrigued could be the idea of steel human beings called Mollards and the way they are invented. Are people looking forward to come back after death through Vangora soul repository, it was strange to sound but anything could be possible in space and sci-fi future. The story unfolds in a good number of dimensions. It was absolutely surreal.

This is a novel of ideas. Some are esoteric, and some may be possible in the next two or three centuries. And hence, it should be read as a work that unfolds the ever expanding dynamic structure of the universe, matter, and reality, and the comprehensibility of the human mind in adapting to a cosmos that’s no longer safe. It’s not a story of character study, rather the story of preparation by the race with all the flaws and foibles to protect and safeguard their versions free from death and pain.

Views on the Cover:

The cover page carries the image of someone acting as a guide in the plotline. However, it could be considered that it was Anglid, King Thio’s son, who goes on a quest but his plane crashes and he is taken captive by raptures. Other thing is that the book’s name and subtitle are mixed. You cannot tell the name of the book until you check its veracity on Google or Amazon. The cover is cool, unique, and subtle.

Views on the Characters:

A long list of characters surrounds the storyline. From all regions to all walks of life, characters popping up to keep you throwing in a loop of surprises. Some are aggressive characters like military leaders, while Mollards under the command of humans are oppressed and suppressed. A gamut of characterization exudes a variety of vibes, mechanism, and idiosyncrasies. As you read more, you may like some and hate some. The assembly of characters may add or reduce; it depends upon the next books in the series.
