Marriage Wows

By Dhanuka Dickwella

Pressed hard to a wall

Kisses sealing the lips

Softness of the body reveals

The heat was on the rise

It was taboo in her mind

An act of evil in books

Books of the holy

And in nobility

Pure lust or a touch of love

Warmth of another man

Tampering on the marriage wows

Indulging in forbidden pleasure

All she needed

A feeling being cherished

Feel being cared for

Not being just naked

In a bond written by laws

With no warmth on hold

She wasn’t ready to die

As a woman forgotten

In a story of an ignorant man

  2. To Dhanuka, your ability to encapsulate such profound emotions is a true treasure. This poem not only stopped my heartbeat but also rendered me momentarily blank, a testament to its impact. You are an artist whose brilliance deserves recognition from both the universe and the world. Congratulations on creating a piece that resonates on such a deep, universal level. Way to go!

Having personally experienced the profound impact of divorce, I was deeply moved by the raw authenticity of this piece. It encapsulates the vulnerability and strength that coexist during such times. The acknowledgment that a woman deserves more than mere legality in a relationship echoes a universal truth often overlooked.

As someone who has felt the profound echoes of heartbreak, the lines, “I wasn’t ready to die as a woman forgotten” struck a powerful chord. The poet, Dhanuka, skillfully navigates the intricacies of emotions, giving voice to the silent struggles within.
