The Asian Prize for Fcition 2023 concluded on the 15th Day of December with Brotherless Night by V.V Ganeshananthan announced as the winner, while Witch in the Peepul Tree by Arefa Tehsin and Woman Who Climbed Trees by Smriti Ravindra made to the super shortlist of the prize. The Asian Group plans to launch the translations of the books selected for the super shortlist in the year 2025 itself, while the rest of the books made to the shortlist will come to Sihala in early 2026.
The Witch in Peepul Tree will be translated by D. N Dickwella, who is an author of both fiction and non-fiction, a political analyst and a specialist in geopolitics. As a publication of Subavi Publishers—one of the leading award-winning publishers specialised in translations in Sri Lanka—Tehsin’s work will reach out to the Sri Lankan readership in 2025. V.V Ganashanathan’s Brotherless Night will come out in early 2025, as also a Subhavi Publishers, translated by acclaimed translator Rohana Kaluarachchi, who is known for translating stories set in complex cultural settings. Woman Who Climbed Trees by Smriti Ravindra is scheduled to come out in the 3rd quarter of 2025 as a Minsara Publication, translated by an accomplished writer and translator Mohan Dharmarathne. All the inward rights are managed by The Asian Literary Agency.
